Lights, Camera, Action: Students Learn About Videography at Day of Film Workshop
This past weekend, aspiring filmmakers from Minneapolis high schools gathered for an exciting one-day workshop hosted by Project Success in partnership with Late Bloomer. The event offered participants a hands-on introduction to the world of filmmaking, providing them with the tools and techniques used by professionals to create captivating films and digital content.
The day started with introductions and a brief icebreaker game to start the conversations flowing. After that, students shared their skill levels and individual goals for the day, which helped the team from Late Bloomer tailor the workshop to fit their needs. Next, students learned about camera terminology and the basics of composition and camera handling tips to prepare for their hands on activity – a scavenger hunt throughout the PS building. Students embarked on scavenger hunt where they had to locate and capture specific items based on clues, and incorporate the creative shot techniques they had just learned. Afterwards they edited their footage into highlight reels or short films with the guidance of the instructors from Late Bloomer. Once finished, students had a chance to share their projects with the group and reflect on how they will use these new skills moving forward.
Throughout the day, students delved into the art of storytelling, learned the essentials of video production, and explored how to craft engaging content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Whether they dreamt of making movies, building a content channel, or simply unleashing their creativity, students walked away with practical skills and inspiration to bring their ideas to life. The collaboration between Project Success and Late Bloomer made this workshop an unforgettable experience for our students.
