I Am Betty
Betty Crocker has helped shape America’s homes, kitchens, and recipes for over a century. Surprising to many, she was not a real person! As a radio and television personality, a letter-writing confidante, and a relatable icon, “Betty” has impacted multiple generations. Enjoy last season’s runaway hit, and experience this musical treat Star Tribune called, “entertainingly provocative and, well, delish.” You will be singing along and craving to bake with Betty as it examines the lives of women and society throughout the past 100 years.
“…breezily entertaining, informative, and burnishes a glow of hometown pride.” – Talkin’ Broadway

Themes
- Even though Betty Crocker is not a real person, she has long represented qualities that appeal to people of countless backgrounds and identities. Is there a fictional character today that a lot of people relate to?
- The story of Betty Crocker spans several generations. Thus watching Betty Crocker’s story is also the chance to look at the gradual shifts (and setbacks) regarding the rights of women in America. If women 100 years ago could see what America is like today, what might they be pleased with? And what might they be concerned about?
