Empowering Students: Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy Through Action

As part of this year’s celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Project Success proudly partnered with the Science Museum and the State of Minnesota for the Youth Empowerment Summit, held during the One Dream One Minnesota Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The theme for the day centered on civic engagement inspired by Dr. King—exploring how individual and collective actions can spark change and develop the next generation of community leaders.

On Friday, January 17th, Project Success brought nearly 200 students, teachers, and staff from Camden, Northeast, and Anthony to participate in this transformative event. Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan delivered a powerful message about belonging, inclusion, and the ongoing fight for equity, encouraging everyone to continue striving for these values at both personal and community levels.

Throughout the day, each student participated in a workshop that deepened their understanding of Dr. King’s life and legacy, with topics ranging from youth leadership and advocacy to mental health and racial justice. In the workshops, students discussed actions that they could take over the next year in their community to make their communities and world a better place.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the partnership of teachers and principals that brought students from Camden, Northeast, and Anthony, as well as the staff at the Science Museum of Minnesota and the One Dream, One Minnesota team; all of whom made this day so impactful for our students.
